Vivo Launches AI-Driven Origin OS 5 with Android 15 – Everything You Need to Know

Date:

Vivo has officially launched its latest operating system, Origin OS 5, based on Android 15, bringing a wave of AI-enhanced features and personalization options to its users in China. The new OS offers enhanced home and lock screen customization, dynamic effects, and the introduction of the upgraded Little V assistant, which now includes advanced AI tools.

Origin OS 5 introduces a new “Atomic Island” feature, similar to Dynamic Island found in other smartphones, enhancing user interactivity.

This update arrives shortly after Vivo and its sub-brand iQOO rolled out the Funtouch OS 15 globally, marking the global availability of Android 15 for their devices.

Key Features of Vivo Origin OS 5

Upgraded Little V Assistant

One of the standout additions to Origin OS 5 is the upgrade to Vivo’s virtual assistant, Little V. Much like Google’s “Circle-to-Search” feature, users can highlight sections of their screen by circling the content, prompting the assistant to initiate a visual lookup on the web. This tool is perfect for on-the-go web searches and quick information retrieval.

The upgraded Little V assistant also allows users to save articles and videos for easy access, take notes during calls, and provide real-time transcription in multiple languages, making it a powerful productivity tool.

The assistant can even take calls on behalf of the user, summarize the conversation, and deliver a concise overview, streamlining communication tasks. Writing tools can be utilized within Atom Notes, Vivo Documents, and emails to enhance text input experiences.

Customizable Home and Lock Screens

Origin OS 5 offers users extensive options to customize their device’s appearance. Home and lock screens can be modified with situational wallpapers, varying materials, layouts, and depth effects to give each screen a unique look. Users can also change the lock screen toggles for added convenience and style.

An upgraded feature, Mood Wallpaper 2.0, provides two new dynamic wallpapers—Fireworks Moment and Scenery of Mountains and Sea—both of which use AI to adjust according to the time of day and local weather conditions. These wallpapers also offer character recognition, creating an immersive experience that brings the screen to life with real-time visual updates.

AI-Enhanced Features

The AI capabilities of Origin OS 5 shine through several key functionalities. With built-in video editing tools, users can create professional-quality videos directly from their device. The system also introduces real-time translation, including support for dialect-text conversion, recognizing various dialects and converting them into Mandarin.

This feature enables communication across language barriers, further enhanced by sign language recognition and the generation of virtual sign language, ensuring inclusivity for users with hearing impairments.

Leveraging the smartphone’s AI assistant, users can take a picture and immediately ask for information related to the image. This feature simplifies content creation and information searches, making it easier than ever to interact with visual content in real time.

Enhanced Visual Experience

Vivo has improved the aesthetics and functionality of its OS with several key updates. The vivo Sans Typeface has been upgraded for better readability, with the addition of Greek and Cyrillic writing systems, now supporting up to 26 languages. This update makes the device more versatile for international users.

The Weather app has also seen a significant upgrade, now offering dynamic weather visuals based on real-world conditions. For instance, if it’s raining or snowing in the user’s location, the app will display corresponding dynamic weather animations on-screen, creating a visually immersive experience.

Atomic Island

The newly introduced Atomic Island feature mimics the concept of Apple’s Dynamic Island and offers seamless notifications and multitasking. This tool allows for real-time interaction and alert management, all within an easily accessible area on the display, improving productivity and user engagement.

Availability and Compatibility

Origin OS 5 is expected to be rolled out across a range of Vivo devices in the coming months, starting in China. The specific list of eligible devices has yet to be announced, but Vivo promises a smooth upgrade process for users currently on Android 15 or those using older versions of the operating system.

As the global rollout for Funtouch OS 15 continues, there is anticipation that similar features from Origin OS 5 may make their way into international versions, though Vivo has not confirmed any plans yet. The company’s commitment to leveraging AI and personalization in its operating systems positions it as a competitive player in the Android market.

Conclusion

Vivo’s Origin OS 5 represents a significant leap forward for the brand, offering users more control, AI-powered tools, and enhanced interactivity. From customizable screens to a powerful AI assistant, the operating system is designed to elevate user experience and productivity.

As Vivo continues its rollout, more features and updates are expected to be fine-tuned to meet the needs of its growing user base, making this one of the most anticipated OS updates for 2024.

With its wide range of capabilities, Origin OS 5 ensures that Vivo’s devices stay competitive in the ever-evolving world of smartphone technology.
