KTM 390 Adventure R Unveiled in Camo Ahead of Global Debut at EICMA 2024

Date:

KTM fans, get ready for something exciting! The highly anticipated KTM 390 Adventure R is gearing up for its official global debut at EICMA 2024, and it’s already making waves. Nearly two years after launching the 390 Duke, the Austrian motorcycle giant is finally set to upgrade its Adventure and RC series to the new-gen 390cc platform.

The latest buzz? A camouflaged prototype of the KTM 390 Adventure R, spotted at the 2024 KTM Adventure Rally in South Dakota, USA.

First Look – The KTM 390 Adventure R Prototype

The KTM Research & Development team unveiled two prototypes of the 390 Adventure R at the rally, giving us a first glimpse of this new beast before it hits the international market. This marks the first time that KTM is bringing out a rally-spec version of its popular 390 Adventure model, with the ‘R’ suffix indicating higher specs and a more rugged build.

Despite being heavily camouflaged, the core design and features of the KTM 390 Adventure R were clearly visible. The adventure bike boasts new body panels and an aggressive, rugged look compared to the existing model. Most strikingly, the bike features a new twin LED headlamp setup, along with an adjustable visor that proudly flaunts the ‘R’ badge.

Design and Hardware Highlights

The new-gen KTM 390 Adventure R is designed to handle tough terrain and offer a more off-road-friendly experience. The prototype seen at the rally rolled on wire-spoked wheels—19 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear—wrapped in knobby dual-purpose tyres, ideal for both dirt trails and highways. The bike’s aggressive stance is further enhanced by a tall front beak, handguards, and a new LED DRL signature surrounding the headlamp.

Other key design features include a floating tail section, a single-piece seat, a split pillion grab rail, and an underbelly exhaust, all adding to its adventure-ready appearance. KTM has also equipped the bike with a sturdy metallic belly pan and a blacked-out trellis frame for extra durability during off-road adventures.

When it comes to hardware, the KTM 390 Adventure R is packed with high-end components. These include upside-down front forks, a rear monoshock, and single disc brakes at both ends for superior control and handling on challenging terrains. The exposed frame, coupled with a single-sided swingarm, showcases the bike’s rugged build quality.

Engine and Performance

The new KTM 390 Adventure R will be powered by a 399cc DOHC, 4-valve, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine—the same motor found in the 390 Duke. In the Duke, this engine produces 44.25 bhp and 39 Nm of peak torque, so we can expect similar power figures for the Adventure R as well. Paired with a 6-speed gearbox, this engine will also feature a slip and assist clutch for smoother gear shifts.

The bike will benefit from several rider-friendly electronics, including a bi-directional quickshifter, ride-by-wire throttle, multiple ride modes, traction control, and switchable rear ABS. This combination of performance and features makes the 390 Adventure R a serious contender in the adventure bike segment.

Advanced Features for the Modern Rider

KTM is known for packing its motorcycles with advanced technology, and the 390 Adventure R is no exception. Expect a fully digital TFT instrument console, complete with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation, to make long rides more convenient. Other handy features include a USB charging port to keep your devices powered on the go.

What to Expect at EICMA 2024

The KTM 390 Adventure R is set to make its official debut at the EICMA 2024 on November 5, where we’ll likely get all the remaining details, including pricing and availability. With its rally-spec enhancements, robust design, and powerful engine, the 390 Adventure R is sure to be a crowd favorite among adventure enthusiasts.

In the world of adventure motorcycles, KTM has already made a name for itself, and the new 390 Adventure R is likely to strengthen that reputation even further. If you’re in the market for a versatile, off-road-capable adventure bike, this new offering from KTM might just be worth the wait!
